Board Welcome

The history of Jewish life in Halifax began in 1750 and culminated when the Baron de Hirsch Hebrew Benevolent Society was incorporated in 1895 by a private members bill in the Nova Scotia Legislature. The objectives of the Society are to maintain a Synagogue and its educational, religious, social, cultural, welfare and recreational needs, while fostering the objectives of traditional Orthodox Judaism.

We strive to enrich and enhance the whole Jewish Community with services and facilities that could never be replaced. Visitors, both local and from away, remark on the quality of our services, our building and the hospitality of our Congregation.

This is our legacy to the future generations, who I hope will appreciate the foresight, dedication and sacrifice that their forebearers made in providing facilities and services for the whole Community.
